I pray for the day that the Body of Christ become the people who are run to in times of need. It seems like everyday we are mourning the death of yet another child who signed his or her life over to the United State’s Armed Forces. Why aren’t WE recruiting for the KINGDOM, offering the same benefits that these recruiters offer high school kids? Why do they feel the need to run to the government, consenting to kill if need be, just to have the chance to afford college? I want this senseless cycle of primitive nationalistic violence to end; For us to believe that death has been overcome through Calvary. Let us vow to be recreated in His image today, so WE, the church, may be known as the
I received an email from a brother who recently joined the military. “I had to tell you through message because my father is on facebook. It was the only option that I thought would work because my dad threatened to kick me out if I didn’t join. I had already been homeless for 4 months prior to being brought back into my dad’s home. But I couldn’t afford college, and he thought I was going nowhere in life.”
The church should have the reputation of TAKING IN all who feel they have no other option. We should be that city on a hill who’s light can not be hidden from the world, shining the glory of our kind, compassionate, merciful Father. I feel like we have failed him, and all the other kids who felt they had no other option. When will we be known by our love? Why aren’t we shouting, at the top of our lungs, “YOU HAVE A HOME HERE. YOU HAVE A CHANCE HERE. YOU ARE VALUABLE HERE. LET US SHOW YOU A BETTER WAY.” Is it because we are too preoccupied with our own success? Too concerned with our own nuclear families to worry about other peoples children? I really want to figure this out so we can begin positioning ourselves as people who are willing to bear the dying world’s burdens with them. I want this to end.
